Leary Wins Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Feature!
CJ Leary picked up his 9th career win Saturday night at Lawrenceburg taking the lead for good away from Nick Bilbee on lap 16 but it was not before a scary and breath taking series of laps between the two as they traded slidejobs back and forth. Bilbee was running the preferred line and that held up Leary until they encountered lap traffic which played more into the favor of Leary who finally wrestled the lead away and cruised on to the feature win. Bilbee finished second followed by Shawn Westerfeld, Joss Moffatt, and Jordan Kinser. Heat race winners were Kinser, Bilbee, and Leary. The battle for the championship is heating up, as Westerfeld retook the point lead by 5 over Kinser. The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint cars return to the Burg on Satuday, August 18th for the Dick Gaines Memorial.
Hamilton Impressive in Feature Win!
Matt Hamilton picked up win #3 of the year as he led all 20 laps in The Budweiser UMP Modified Feature Saturday night at Lawrenceburg. Although Hamilton didn’t have too much trouble in the feature, his day was a long one as he didn’t have an engine in the car at 12 noon and luckily for Hamilton, he was able to borrow a motor from Cory Skipton and get it in in time to race. It paid off for Hamilton and he was very appreciate of the help from the Skipton’s as he thanked them in victory lane. The rest of the top 5 were David Spille, Brad Weick, Brian Gray and Pete Holt. Heat race winners were Hamitlon, Spille and Scotty Kincaid. Kincaid leads the Budweiser UMP Modifieds by 10 points over David Spille as the season begins to wind down. The Modifieds return to the Burg on Saturday July 19th.
Bill Grant Wins First Career hornet race at Lawrenceburg!
Bill Grant led all 12 laps on his way to his first career hornet win at Lawrenceburg. It wasn’t without a good battle with current track point leader Cordell Moore. Moore tried several times to pull alongside of Grant, but Grant was able to keep the momentum on the high side to maintain the top spot. With just a few laps remaining Grant’s car began smoking. And it looked like his chances at a victory would literally go up in smoke. Luckily for Grant, his car would hold together just long enough to take the checkered flag for his first career win. Moore finished second followed by Bradley Eberhart, Josh Hammond and Michael Freimuth. Heat race winners were Moore, Gage Clark, Bradley Eberhart, and Josh Hammond. B main winners were Destin Grout and Gary Whitt. Cordell Moore leads the Bessler’s U Pull N save Hornet point standings by 150 over Adam Love. The Hornets will be back racing on Saturday August 19th.
Chris Combs wins Purestock feature!
All Chris Combs had to do was wait and let the action unfold in front of him. It seemed like the lead was not the place to be. Eric House took the lead on the opening lap and battled with Jonathan Grace for the lead for several laps until Grace made contact with House and they both spun out. This sent Grace to the infield as his car was too damaged to continue. House had to restart at the tail. This put Danny Eichler to the lead. He would lead for a few laps until a mechanical failure eliminated him from the top spot. Chris Combs assumed the lead and had to hold off the hard charging Steve King on a green/white restart for the final lap. King finished second followed by Eric House, Don Grace and Bobby Burleson. Heat race winner was Eric House. Combs leads the points by 45 over Don Grace. The Impact Sports Purestocks return to Lawrenceburg on Saturday August 19th.
