Hodges picks up Feature Win in Soudrette Memorial!
The Boss Sprint car series were making their second stop to The Lawrenceburg Speedway in 2016. New Mexico native, Josh Hodges has been very fast in a non-wing sprint car since coming to the Midwest. In his few races at Lawrenceburg, he has been very competitive but not fast enough to win. Hodges would start on the outside of the second row. When the green flag flew, pole sitter CJ Leary would have a mechanical issue and retire from the race not even completing a turn. On the restart defending track champ, Joss Moffatt would scoot to the lead bringing along Hodges. The two would battle for the lead with Garrett Abrams settling into third. Hodges would secure the lead from Moffatt. As the race got past the halfway point, current track point leader, Jarrett Andretti was also very fast. He had made his way to third and was setting up to pass Moffatt for second when he through a slide job in turn 4 and caught the outside wall and had a spectacular crash on the frontstretch. Luckily, he was able to walk away although visibly sore from the incident. When the race resumed with just 3 laps to go, Hodges was able to hold off Moffatt for the win. The rest of the top 5 was Logan Jarrett, Shawn Westerfeld, and Cooper Clause who came from 23rd. Dickie Gaines driving the 44 Soudrette sprint car came from 22nd to finish 7th. Heat race winners were Landon Simon, Josh Hodges, Jarrett Andretti, CJ Leary, and Shawn Westerfeld. B main winners were Todd Keen and Dickie Gaines. Jarrett Andretti maintains the point lead over Shawn Westerfeld with 4 races remaining.
Schornick wins Second feature this year!
The Budweiser UMP Modified feature also spelled trouble for the pole sitter. As it did for the Sprints, pole sitter, Gary Dunaway lost power coming to the green flag retiring from the event. This put Kyle Schornick to the front row. Green flag would wave allowing schornick to get the jump on outside polesititer Weasel Rhoades. Schornick would lead holding off several challenges from Rhoades early on. Schornick would lead all 20 laps picking up his second win of the season. The rest of the top 5 was Mike Learman, Scotty Kincaid, David Spille and Jeff Koz. Heat race winners were Kincaid, Learman and Kyle Schornick. With 5 races remaining, Kincaid leaves Spille by 50 points for the Budweiser UMP Modified track championship.
Smith Does it Again in Hornet Feature!
Dalton Smith won for the 4th time this year in the Bessler’s U Pull N Save Hornets. This time he would have to come from the 10th starting position but he made it look relatively easy as he made his way to the top spot just about 5 laps from the finish. The race was red flagged after a nasty crash where the 15C of Cordell Moore flipped and got upside down after making contact with Tyler McGhee. On the restart, Smith made his way to the front and won for the 4th time this year, and adds a few point to his slim point lead over Gage Clark. The top 5 was Gage Clark, Kendall Eberhardt, Josh Atkins and Adam Love who started 9th. Heat race winners were Kenny Higbie, Kendall Eberhart, and Dalton Smith. The Besslers U Pull N Save Hornets return to the Burg next Saturday August 6th.
Grace Easily Wins Purestock Feature!
Don Grace would lead all 15 laps en route for his second win of the year and extending his point point lead over Corebin Mcroberts in both of their quests for their first career track championships. Following Grace across the line was Corebin McRoberts, Wil McRoberts, Scott Williams and Dalton Baird. Heat race winners were Don Grace and Scott Williams. As the season winds down for the Impact Sports Purestocks Don Grace holds a 15 point lead over Corebin McRoberts.
