Westerfeld Wins for Second Time in 2016!
Former track champion, Shawn Westerfeld showed he was the dominate car for the second time this year during the Kelsey Chevrolet Feature. The green flag flew with current point leader, Dickie Gaines leading the field to the start. Gaines would lead for a few laps until he got sideways off of turn two and clipped the outside walls sending his car tumbling down the track. He was uninjured but retired from the event. When the race resumed, Jarrett Andretti, would assume the lead. It would be short lived as Westerfeld clearly was faster and was able to quickly take the lead away from Andretti. Westerfeld would not run away however, and Andretti was able to keep pace especially as the cars raced in lap traffic. On the white flag lap, Andretti made 2 bold moves to take the win away from Westerfeld even making slight contact in turn 3 but it wasn’t enough. Westerfeld held on for the win. Andretti was second followed by Joss Moffatt, Dallas Hewitt, and Drew Abel. Heat race winners were Michael Fischesser, Jarrett Andretti, and Shawn Westerfeld. The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to Lawrenceburg on Saturday June 4th.
Hamilton Gets First Win of 2016!
Defending track champ, Matt Hamilton picked up his first feature win in 2016 at Lawrenceburg. 2015 had been a dominant year for Hamilton with many feature wins and the track championship. The start of 2016 has not gone well for Hamilton. It finally turned around on this night as he took the lead away from early leader Scotty Kincaid and never looked back. Kincaid, who is always strong, led the opening laps before Hamilton took over for good. Kincaid finished second followed by Kyle Schornick, David Spille, and Jim Szekacs. Heat race winners were Spille, Szekacs, and Hamilton. The Budweiser UMP Modifieds return to the Burg on Monday, May 30th alongside the World of Outlaws.
Dalton Smith Wins Again!
Dalton Smith has shown he is one of the best Hornet drivers racing for the Besslers U Pull N Save Championship. He has now won for the second time this year and except for some engine trouble a few weeks ago, would be considered the dominant car. The driver he beat, Gage Clark, led 10 laps and has now finished second 4 times this year. Those two drivers were very even for the entire feature, but Smith was able to give Clark a bump and get underneath him and ultimately take the lead away. The rest of the top were Tony Napier II, Andrew Casanova, and Michelle Baird. The Besslers U Pull N Save Hornets return to the track on Saturday June 11th for family night at the races.
Burton wins Pure Stock Feature!
William Burton first won at Lawrenceburg back in 2008. He picked up his second win at The Burg as he doesn’t race regularly at the 3/8 mile track. He led all 15 laps and held on to the win as series regulars Don Grace and Corebin McRoberts tried their best to mount a challenge. JD Largent, who had to start from the tail due to winning his 2 previous starts finished 4th followed by Chris Combs who finished 5th. Heat race winners Don Grace and William Burton. The Impact Sports Purestocks return to the Burg on Saturday June 11.
