Champ Moffatt Gets First Win of 2016!
Defending Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Car Champion Joss Moffatt lost the lead with a few laps to go to Nick Bilbee, but a caution flag with a few laps to go gave him another shot at the win. On the restart Moffatt ally drove hard into turn 1 and was able to clear Bilbee as they raced down the backstretch. This gave Moffatt the lead of which he would not give up for his first victory of the year and 4th of his career at Lawrenceburg. Polesitter and last week’s feature winner Shawn Westerfeld was involved in a crash with Jordan Kinser which sent Weseterfeld to the tail for the restart and eliminated Kinser from contention. This put Moffatt at the front of the field to battle with Dickie Gaines, Nick Bilbee, and others. That set up the showdown between Bilbee and Moffatt with Moffatt holding on to the win followed by Bilbee, Garrett Abrams, Michael Fischesser, and Dickie Gaines. Heat race winners were Gaines, Westerfeld, and Kinser. The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to the Burg on Saturday April 30th for the King Of The Midwest Sprints.
Herbert finally gets win!
Greensburg, Indiana native, Kyle Herbert has been trying for a few seasons to break into the win column in the Budweiser UMP Modifieds. After several good finishes, and also going through a streak of bad luck, this night would be the one for Herbert to finally put his modified in victory lane. David Spille would start from the pole alongside defending champ Matt Hamilton. On the opening lap, Spille would spin out sending him to the tail on the restart. Coming to the second start, Matt Hamilton’s car suffered a mechanical failure eliminating him from the race. When the race finally went green, Herbert would assume the lead and battle with both Scotty Kincaid and Broc Burton. On several restarts, Kincaid would make a run on Herbert, but each time, Herbert would be able to hold off the challengers. In the end, Kyl Herbert would hold on and win for the first time at Lawrenceburg Speedway. The rest of the top 5 were Burton, Kincaid, Kyle Schornick, and David Spille. The Budweiser UMP Modifieids return to the track on Saturday April 30th.
Hootie Time at the Burg for Roark’s first Win!
Purestock driver, Houston Roark would get the opportunity to drive his brother’s hornet for the first time in a race and what a night it was. Houston was one of the quickest cars all night and for most of the race followed in the tire tracks of Gage Clark who dominated the race. The two raced side by side for much of the race with Clark able to maintain his lead coming off of the turns. On the white flag lap, Roark had 1 final chance for the win. As they went into turn 3 on the white flag, Roark dove to the inside of Clark. Clark had to slide up the track and this allowed Roark to sneak around and beat Clark back to the line for his first career hornet win. For the second week in a row Clark wound up second followed by Kevin Stamper, Destin Grout, and rookie Adam Love with his first top 5 finish. Heat race winners were Dalton Smith, Bradley Eberhardt, Gage Clark and Houston Roark. Jon Cornett won the B Main. The Bessler’s U Pull N Save Hornets will return on Saturday May 7th.

JD Largent very well could have won the first two Impact Sports Purestocks events this season. Last week he was runner up to Corebin McRoberts after leading most of the race. On this night, Largent would lead the most laps on his way to the win. Once Largent got out front only Will McRoberts would get close. As the checkered flag flew for Largent, Don Grace finished second followed by Will McRoberts, Jerry Helton and Corebin McRoberts. The Impact Sports PureStocks return to Lawrenceburg on Saturday April 30th.
