July 25th-CDL Night @ The Races

Moffatt Wins in Impressive Style!

Joss Moffatt has always been one of the better drivers to drive a sprint car at Lawrenceburg.   He’s in the hunt for a 3rd track championship this year but entered the night 280 points behind Thomas Meseraull. Meseraull decided to race elsewhere on this night so Moffatt had a good opportunity to cut into his lead. When the green flag flew to start the feature, CJ Leary took command on the outside front row in Todd Peterson’s #30 owned sprint car. Leary paced the field for most of the race with Moffatt and Jarrett Andretti trying to chase him down. As the field began to catch slower traffic, Moffatt was really able to close the distance and make a move on Leary for the lead. With just 3 laps remaining, Joss Moffatt would secure the lead and hold on for the feature win. Leary finished second, followed by Dickie Gaines, Jordan Kinser, and Garrett Abrams. An emotional winner in victory lane, Moffatt was clearly overwhelmed by the fans cheering him on to victory. It was the third career victory for the 2 time chance who now trails the point leader by 60 points in his bid for the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Car Track Championship. Heat race winners were Leary and Andretti. The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to Lawrenceburg next Saturday night, August 1st for the Jason Soudrette Memorial.

Hamilton Does what Hamilton Does!

Matt Hamilton has been the most dominant driver this year in the Budweiser UMP Modified class. He has only finished outside the top 5 one time this year. On this night he would show again that he was the car to beat. Starting from the 6th spot and quickly making his way to second trailing race leader Kyle Schornick. Schornick was very fast until he lost a driveshaft on the backstretch retiring him from the event. That turned the lead over to Hamilton who took advantage of the problem with Schornick. Although the race would be slowed by caution 3 times near the end, David Spille, who finished second was not able to get around Hamilton for the win. It was Matt Hamilton’s 5th win of the year. Spille was second followed by Scotty Kincaid, Kyle Herbert and Weasel Rhoades, Heat race winnners were Kincaid and Schornick. Hamilton has a 35 point lead on Spille for the Budweiser Modified Championship. The Mods return next Saturday, August 1st.

Hensley Back on Top!

Seven weeks ago, Scott Hensley wasn’t sure he would race again this year. The last time out, Hensley was wrecked into the outside turn 2 wall, destroying the back half of his race car. They spent the last 7 weeks putting the car back together and how sweet it was for them. Hensley ran well all night and started second in the feature. He would grab the lead from pole sitter Houston Roark and never look back. Roark ran a strong second but didn’t have enough for the 3 time and defending champion. Don Grace was third followed by Corebin McRoberts and Will McRoberts. Will had to start last by rule after winning the last 4 features. Corebin McRoberts and Will McRoberts won the heats.   Hensley holds a 40 point lead over Houston Roark in his quest to win his 4th Impact Sports Pure Stock track championship.

Andrew Roark picks up Second Win!

It took Andrew Roark almost 4 years to win in a hornet. Now he is having the best year of his life behind the wheel and just won for the second time this year. Not to mention being the point leader seeking his first track championship. Andrew would start from the 6th position but that wouldn’t stop him from getting to the lead quickly. He would take the lead from Ryan Eversole and cruise on to the win. Mike Gemmer would finish second followed by Eversole, Tim Baird and Tim Schumacher. Heat race winners were Eversole, Shumacher, and Gemmer. Andrew Roark has a 90 point lead on Tim Baird in the battle for The Bessler’s U Pull N Save Hornets.
